2 Taxi Drivers Robbed at Gunpoint! Miami

09-16-2013

MIAMI (WSVN) -- Police are searching for armed robbers who held up cab drivers in two separate incidents.
The first incident happened just after 9:30 p.m. Sunday in the area of 79th Street and Northwest Sixth Avenue. Investigators said the cab driver was having engine trouble and exited off Interstate 95 on to 79th Street. "My car broke down, I call the towing. I wait for the towing to come, and I saw two guys come with a gun on me," said Marques Simon.
Simon said as he waited for the tow truck to come, two men approached him and robbed him of his wallet. "I'm real scared because they have a gun, you know," he said.
The crooks also tried to steal his taxi cab. "They said, 'Give me that key!' and I said, 'That key is inside the car.' They don't know that the car doesn't move," said Simon.
The crooks realized the cab was broken down and fled on foot.
Simon said the robbers stole $60 from him and went to a nearby Chevron gas station for help.
The second robbery took place blocks away, at 72nd Street and Northwest Second Avenue. The taxi cab driver responded to a call from dispatch. He picked up two men and soon felt a gun on his shoulder. "Two teenagers, one 19, one is 22," said Mohammad Younus. "They came in a car and said they want to go to 61st Street and after that I feel a gun on my shoulder and said, 'Give us money and get out the car.'"
The crooks then robbed him of $275 and stole his cab. "I give them money and get out the car," said Younus.
Younus said the men peeled off and almost took down a pole trying to get away. "They hit the pole because they're nervous, and they're speeding," he said.
Younus said he is just happy he made it safely through the ordeal. "Thank God I'm still alive. That's good for me," he said with relief. "I don't care about money."
Police are now trying to determine if the robberies are related.
Luckily, no one was injured.
If you have any information on these armed robberies, call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a reward.
