SE Houston Taxi Driver found Dead.......2011
HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A Houston cab driver was found dead overnight in the parking lot of a park on the city's south side.
An HPD officer was on patrol when he spotted a cab parked around 1am in the 7500 block of Scott Street at Beech White Park. He discovered the cab driver slumped over in the vehicle with the driver's door open.

Police say the cab driver, identified as Alvin Irving, Jr., was partially in the cab with his leg hanging out. Irving, Jr. was pronounced dead on the scene. Police are now saying that Irvin, Jr. may have died of natural causes.
Investigators ruled out robbery earlier, saying they found money at the scene. We're told the cab driver was supposed to pick up an occupant near the area, but we we're also told that occupant was never picked up.

There are no known witnesses nor suspects in this case.

HOUSTON – Police arrested two suspects Friday they say shot and killed two Yellow Cab drivers in the Houston area.
The suspects, 21-year-olds Chaz Blackshear and Danielle Hudson, confessed to their roles in the murders and police said evidence recovered verified their involvement.
Police said Mohammed Elsayed, 32, was shot to death Tuesday in the 5400 block of Wheatley. His body was discovered in a nearby bayou later that day, and his cab was found abandoned in the 12400 block of Overbrook.
The second driver, 50-year-old Blaise Nwokenaka, was killed Thursday morning. Police said the last fare Nwokenaka picked up was at the Chevron at Whittington and Dairy Ashford, the same location as the 1st victim. Authorities said a patrol officer saw the cab parked in the middle of an office parking lot, but thought nothing of it. When the officer drove by a second time, around 5 a.m., and the cab was still there, he went to investigate and found Nwokenaka shot to death in the driver’s seat. Police said the interior of the cab appeared to be burned.
Several Yellow Cab drivers expressed concerns for their safety earlier this week after getting word of the killings. Roman Martinez, President and CEO of Texas Taxi, a parent company of Yellow Cab of Houston, said he was grateful to police for getting the suspects off the streets.
"The independent contractor drivers are relieved, as we are, to know the murderers who were preying on Houston’s taxi drivers have been arrested," Martinez said in a statement.
Authorities said the suspects were arrested without incident and each faces charges of two counts of capital murder.
Police said more information on the case would be released during a news conference Monday

SAN ANTONIO - A man was shot inside of his taxi cab on the city's East Side.

It happened around 4:15 Monday morning near FM 78 and Sunrise Pass.

When Police arrived on the scene they found the man dead in his cab.
The driver has not been identified but police say he was in his 40's.

"Here's a guy here trying to make a living and he was murdered while trying to do that, " said Police Chief William McManus.

The news of the murder quickly traveled to other taxi drivers. News 4 WOAI caught up with several of them at the local airport.
"We might be on watch because you never know what's going to happen, " replied driver Jorge Carrion.

Carrion said he's been driving a cab for 32 years and will not work nights. Another driver, Faris Rafiti will also only work during the day. Both men try to keep their business at the airport because they say it's safer. Some taxi cab drivers don't have that option.

"Some people they can not afford it because it's to tough to make that's why they go into the city to make money, " replied driver Mohammad Ghanem.

The drivers we spoke with did not know the murdered taxi driver, but say they are still deeply saddened by the news.

Police are looking at surveillance video taken from a nearby Exxon station because they believe both the driver and passenger may have stopped there. Investigators will also search through surveillance video from inside the taxi cab.

So far police have not released a motive, or the name of a suspect.

Houston Taxi Driver Shot!
Police are searching for four men suspected in a shooting that left a taxi driver critically wounded outside an apartment complex in southwest Houston early this morning.
The shooting happened at the complex at 12600 Dunlap about 12:05 a.m. Friday, according to the Houston Police Department.
Police said the man, whose name has not been released, was rushed to Ben Taub General Hospital. He had been shot more than once. No other injuries were reported.
Police said passersby found the man lying gunshot in the complex parking lot. Investigators said the man, who is believed to be cab driver, told the Good Samaritans he had picked up four men in his minivan taxi at the bus station at 2121 Main Street. At some point, the men shot and robbed him and his van was stolen.
The men left after the gunfire. One of the men drove away in the minivan. He is described only as thin and in his mid 20s. No descriptions of the other men were available.
The minivan is white and has red letters and numbers on it as well as tinted back windows. Police did not release the van’s license plate number.

A young cab driver, caught up in a dispute between his passengers and someone in another vehicle, was shot to death this morning and dumped by the side of the road, police said. Courtesy Bashir Kassim AbrahaThe shooting occured just before 5 a.m. near the Stemmons Freeway and Regal Row.

The driver, from Ambassador Cab, was identified by his manager as Bashir Kassim Abraham, who was in his early 20s. Abraham was originally from Somalia, said the manager, Jamal Ganamo.
Abraham had just picked up two male passengers at the XTC Caberet on Stemmons. There, according to withesses, the two men had an altercation with at least one other patron.
As the cab was headed north on the Stemmons frontage road, someone in another vehicle pulled up and opened fire, police said, striking Abraham and his two passengers.
The two -- who have not been identified -- tossed the driver out of the cab, then fled in it.
Police found Abraham. He was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The two passengers showed up at Parkland, seeking medical attention. They were treated, then arrested on unrelated assualt charges while homicide detectives continue their investigation.
The original shooter remains at large.
An employee at a hotel near the nightclub said violence there is commonplace.
"Just about every weekend or every other weekend, there are gunshots coming from that parking lot as they're leaving from 3 to 5 in the morning," said Estela Nolasco, who works the Wingate Hotel's front desk.
Telephone calls to XTC were not answered.
Abdifatah Dualeh, another cabdriver, said he, too, was at the XTC early today and turned the two men down when they approached him for a ride.
"They looked mad and cussed at each other. I got scared," Dualeh said.

LA MARQUE — Police are investigating the shooting of a taxi driver who they believe was killed by the last person she gave a ride to.

A passing motorist found Raneshia Lyshaun Kelly, 28, of Hitchcock, bleeding to death in her taxi along the northbound Interstate 45 feeder road near Century Boulevard about 3 a.m. Sunday.

The motorist had pulled over to check on the driver after she saw the maroon taxi van weave on the road, go across the grass median and hit the I-45 guardrail.

Kelly was dead by the time police and EMS workers arrived.

Bloodstains in the van indicate she was shot inside it, La Marque Police Chief Richard Price said. He said he believes she was shot near the accident site and thought the passenger then escaped.

No cash or belongings were missing from the taxi, Price said.

Earlier that night, dispatchers at the cab company sent Kelly to pick up a passenger at 18th Street and The Strand in Galveston to take him to an unknown La Marque location, police reports said.

Kelly worked for Jeff’s Cabs Co., a Galveston taxi service. Workers at the cab company declined to comment on the case.

Price said the only suspect is the man who called for the ride.

An autopsy is expected to be conducted today or Tuesday, Price said.

Pair arrested in taxi heist

GALVESTON — Two men are in jail after a late-night taxicab robbery that police say does not appear connected to the recent murder of a cab driver in La Marque.

The driver told police he had taken two men to an apartment-complex parking lot in the 4300 block of Avenue P about 11 p.m. Thursday. Instead of paying and getting out, one of the men pulled a gun.

He beat the driver in the head with the gun, while the other man rifled through the driver’s pockets, police said.

The pair made off with about $800, according to police reports.

The driver called 911, and police arrived within minutes. Witnesses told police two men ran from a cab into an apartment in the area.

In the apartment witnesses had identified, police found two men matching the description of the robbers, police said. Officer Michelle Sollenberger reported finding about $800 cash and what police reports described as a small-caliber handgun during a cursory check of the apartment.

The taxicab driver later identified the two men police had found as his attackers, according to police reports.

The driver was receiving medical treatment Friday. Although none of his injuries appeared to be life-threatening, he suffered facial injuries and lost some teeth.

John McMurrin, 26, was in jail Friday under bonds totaling $750,000. He faces charges of aggravated robbery, felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a controlled substance.

Harold Davis, 35, was also in jail under $80,000 bond. He also faces a charge of aggravated robbery. The robbery charge carries a possible prison term of five to 99 years.

A third man in the apartment was questioned and released, police said.

TEXAS CITY — A taxi driver was robbed at gunpoint of his belongings, but police reported he was not physically harmed.

The driver, 50, for A-1 Taxi of Texas City, stopped at 4:15 a.m. Monday in the 100 block of Fifth Avenue North to pick up a female passenger. When she opened the door, a man stuck a shotgun in the driver’s face and ordered him to turn around. The gunman ripped the hand microphone from the cab’s radio and threatened to shoot the driver if he didn’t relinquish his cellphone, wallet and keys.

The man and woman left on foot, and the driver knocked on several doors until someone called police. The driver could provide only vague descriptions of the man and woman, Texas City police Capt. Brian Goetsch

‘Back to square one’ in cab driver’s slaying

LA MARQUE — Having ruled out potential suspects in last month’s shooting death of a taxicab driver, police are again asking the community for help.

“The possible suspects we did talk to were of no assistance, and they all had alibis that turned out to be true,” police Sgt. Mike Kelemen said. “As of right now, we are back to square one.”

La Marque Crime Stoppers usually offers rewards of up to $1,000 for information that clears major criminal cases. However, the group has increased that limit to $5,000 for information in the death of Raneshia Lyshaun Kelly, 28.

Kelly, a Hitchcock resident, was found dead a month ago behind the wheel of her taxi, a van that was stopped on the shoulder of Interstate 45, near Main Street. She had been shot once in the back of the head.

Kelly apparently was in the driver’s seat when she was shot, likely by a passenger she had been conveying from Galveston. Kelly likely had no warning her passenger had a gun pointed at her, police said, as she had her cell phone but had not called anyone for help.

Kelly, who drove for Jeff’s Cab Co., left behind three children.

Kelemen asked anyone with information about her death to call police or Crime Stoppers. Crime Stoppers informants can remain anonymous.
